Polestar Therapy is a center for social justice oriented psychotherapy. We provide trauma-informed care rooted in anti-oppressive and liberatory frameworks, recognizing that healing cannot be separated from the social forces that shape our lives, and must always be rooted in love, liberation, and justice.
Our clinicians are culturally responsive, bringing thoughtful attention to how race, gender, sexuality, class, ability, and other dimensions of identity intersect with mental health and wellbeing. We engage a wide range of concerns including trauma, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relational difficulties, perfectionism, identity development, chronic illness, and the impacts of poverty and isolation. Our team has deep experience supporting survivors of intimate partner and domestic violence, individuals navigating perinatal and parenting transitions, young adults working through family histories, and those healing from religious trauma or exploring spirituality.
Our clinical approach is relationship-based, drawing from psychodynamic and relational theories alongside evidence-based and trauma-informed modalities such as Narrative Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy. We are informed by feminist, womanist, and queer theories, Relational-Cultural Theory, and liberation psychology. We use a disability lens and are fat positive, sex and kink positive, and spiritually inclusive.
We embrace work with BIPOC communities, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and others navigating intersecting marginalized identities. We believe that each person's lived experience is an essential source of knowledge, and we partner with our clients to help them reclaim their narratives, deconstruct internalized oppression, and rebuild worldviews more aligned with their values and needs.
We believe therapy should be accessible to everyone, regardless of background or financial situation.
Our office is conveniently located in the center of downtown, Amherst.
